For this month’s ChicagoVerseUniteD cover story, every day in January will preview a different local artist’s plans for 2011. Today: Apteka!
CVU Best Of 2010 act Apteka made big noise in 2010 with its Traitors 7″ release, which, even at just two songs, helped land the band a steady supply of shows across the city. Now, the swirling psychedelic shoegaze outfit is in the beginning stages of pre-production on its debut full length. The group is aiming for an April or May entry date into the studio, with a summer release for the record. For the band’s Adam Lukas, the studio itself is one of the most exhilarating elements of the entire experience.
“In a lot of ways, this will be a totally new process for us, and that is really exciting,” the frontman describes to CVU. “Everything that we’ve put out so far has been recorded in our cramped, noisy practice space, and this will be the first time we’ll be heading to a proper studio to record. There’s something about the idea of holing up in a studio for a couple weeks and getting totally lost in the process of making a record that has always been a dream of ours. It’s like a little adventure. one that you know you’ll be different when come out on the other side. This being our first full length, also opens things up to explore different textures and moods, as well as push the possibilities of what we can do as a band. to really capture the energy of the performances, and to document what the four of us can do in a room.”
