For this month’s ChicagoVerseUniteD cover story, every day in January will preview a different local artist’s plans for 2011. Today: Calm Palm Vapor!
Coming on the scene in 2010, Calm Palm Vapor (an offshoot of Midstates And The Choir Of Ghosts) dropped both their full length debut Morning Pacific and the Hate To See You Smile EP last year. Now, the self-described “space motown” outfit (fuzzed out, reverb soaked guitar under soft, clean indie vocal stylings) is set to drop a single for Pacific track ”Everyday We Grow” in February, featuring remixes by friends of the act. Fast forward a few months, and the group aims to release a new record by the spring, which the band’s Jose “secretwars” Rodriguez describes to CVU as sounding like “Primal Scream, Jesus and Mary Chain and The Stones Roses and a little bit of the Happy Mondays.” Beyond that, the unit is eyeing a West Coast tour in May, as well as more music videos in the coming months.
