ChicagoVerseUniteD: Chicago Scene Salvation

The CVU 2011 Forecast: Chaperone!

For this month’s ChicagoVerseUniteD cover story, every day in January will preview a different local artist’s plans for 2011. Today: Chaperone!

It’s evident that Chaperone did well with its fall 2010 Cripple King EP. A blend of earnest folk sensibilities and upbeat orchestral pop, the effort earned the act a spin on this past Sunday’s Local 101, a headlining slot tomorrow night (Friday, January 7th) at The Hideout, and even a write up from The Chicago Tribute (with the print feature hitting tomorrow). So naturally, the group would be looking to keep the momentum going. “We are currently recording some songs for an upcoming 7″, Raised by Wolves / Oh Ye Drowning Children,” drummer Thomas J. Des Enfants revealed to CVU via email. “The recent Chaperone sounds are more linear and focused than our recent EP (Cripple King). These two new songs in particular are also more nervy and darker than our previous release as well.”

In addition to the band’s forthcoming single release, Chaperone’s song “Thomas!” is scheduled for inclusion on Columbia College record label AAEMP‘s Chomp, Too compilation, set to drop in February. For music from the group’s Cripple King EP, stream or name a price for “Witches and Sailors” and “Waltzing Topside” below, or find the whole collection at the Chaperone Bandcamp page. And experience Chaperone in a live setting tomorrow (Friday, January 7th) at The Hideout, January 11th at the Double Door, and February 11th at Subterranean.
