For this month’s ChicagoVerseUniteD cover story, every day in January will preview a different local artist’s plans for 2011. Today: Suns!
CVU Best Of 2010 group and 2011 Act To Watch Suns made an impact last year with a pair of free EP releases, The Howl And The Many and Close Calls in The U.S. Space Program. Moody, tumultuous, expansive and experimental, the EPs found the band incorporating elements of post-rock and chamber pop into an array of sounds that shifted from song to song, in turn garnering praise from attentive critics across the web. The act is even in the running for The Deli Magazine’s Best of Chicago Emerging Artists 2010 Poll.
Now, Suns are turning their attention towards touring, with destinations including both coasts and SXSW, and drummer Clinton Weber promising the band “will finally be putting our school/tour bus to good use this year.” On the recording side, Suns have their sites set on a full length effort. And while the group is tight-lipped about the sound of the final product, Weber informs CVU the band aims to “finish the new record before the summer is over.”
In the meantime, Suns are set to perform this Thursday, January 20th, at The House Cafe with Amrita, and February 12th at JBTV. For more from the group, check out Suns on the CVU podcast from March of last year, followed by a live performance of the track “Four Winds,” via sfvideopro.
