For this month’s ChicagoVerseUniteD cover story, every day in January will preview 2012 plans for a Chicago talent or tastemaker. Today: Archie Powell & The Exports!
Though the group didn’t release a full length in 2011, Archie Powell & The Exports have been keeping busy working on the follow up to 2010′s Skip Work effort. The Chicago pop rock outfit is set to release a new record titled Great Ideas in Action on May 1st, which will coincide with May Day and International Worker Day. In between now and then, a new song and new website are set to launch in February, with Skip Work seeing vinyl release that month as well. Come March, the band will once again partake in March Cover Madness, producing a new cover video per week at ExportTv, in addition to venturing to Austin, TX for SXSW. Then, in April, the group release a new video early in the month.
“If Skip Work was cooked medium, this one’s medium rare,” Powell tells CVU of the forthcoming full length. “It’s louder, meaner, and all around more reflective of how we sound live. Plus I’m pretty sure my mom won’t like a lot of the more aggressive material, which is always a positive.”
Catch Archie Powell & The Exports live on Thursday, January 19th at Quenchers Saloon. And find a link to a download page for “Break Even (La La La),” a Skip Work sessions b-side, followed by the band’s three videos from that effort.
