Chicago fuzzed out psych-rockers Stephen Paul Smoker first previewed their forthcoming LP, Ripe Fruit, with the release of the Neon Green / No You No Me 7″ in April of last year. Now, the band is not only looking towards the release of its upcoming album, but even beyond that, as well.
“We have our next two records written and ready to record,” the band’s namesake frontman informs CVU, adding “which we will do.”
Titled Ripe Fruit, the band’s debut full length is set to drop on March 20th through Chicago’s own Kilo Records. When asked about the direction of the new material, Smoker paints a colorful picture.
“The new record sounds like fear, pornography, self deprivation and fasting, paranoia, Jesus Christ, Muhammad, and Buddha, consumption, war, LSD, and death at the bottom of the sea,” he reveals.
Also on deck for Stephen Paul Smoker are two videos, for the singles ”Green City” and “In Cairo,” which Smoker states “will be released very soon.” Looking ahead towards summer or fall, the act is “working on a 20+ minute long “War Musical” for side B of Ripe Fruit.”
Find the new single from Ripe Fruit, ”Green City,” for streaming or purchase below, followed by the video for “No You No Me.” And watch for more on Stephen Paul Smoker and Ripe Fruit this year at CVU.
