The indie pop group arrives at Chicago’s longest-running music television program hot on the heels of their debut full length, Art History, which dropped earlier this month. Audio of the group’s JBTV interview with this site’s Jaime Black will also be released as an episode of the Dynasty Podcasts: CVU series.
Catch the band live this Wednesday, September 12th at Lincoln Hall (tix) for the Art History record release show, and then head to the JBTV site for a chance to gain entry to the group’s intimate JBTV performance this Thursday, September 13th! And stream Art History in its entirety below, following the new video of AH cut “Purple,” which premiered during the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards.
With the group’s new full length, Art History, out today and available now, a full stream of California Wives’ Vagrant debut has posted online. The local indie pop act is set to play a record release show for the album on Wednesday, September 12th at Lincoln Hall (tix). Those looking for something a bit sooner, however, can visit the Burlington this Saturday, September 8th, for the Art History listening party. The Burlington event will also offer chances to win tickets to the Lincoln Hall show on the 12th. Stream Art History below, and look for a video for History cut “Purple” to post soon.
Following the spring release of their track “Marianne,” California Wives are back with another preview of their upcoming debut full length, Art History. The record, the group’s first for Vagrant Records, is set to drop on September 4th. Check out Art History‘s “Purple” below, and catch California Wives live on July 27th at the Bike To The Beach event at the dock on Montrose Beach.
A few months back, CVU reported on California Wives signing with Vagrant Records for their forthcoming debut full length. Now, new details about that album has surfaced, courtesy of the Vagrant Records site. The record, titled Art History, was produced by Claudius Mittendorfer (who’s previously worked with the likes of Neon Indian and Interpol), and will drop on September 4th. Preview the first single from that effort below, followed by the Art History tracklist. And look for the band to tour behind the album in the fall.

“We were excited to sign to Vagrant because it gave us the opportunity to work with a great producer who pushed us to think outside of our tendencies as musicians,” frontman Jayson Kramer states in the label’s announcement. “The newer instrumentation and arrangements were a result of that relationship in the studio. We are thrilled to be a part of such a terrific roster of musicians at Vagrant and we can’t wait to put the new music out there.”
The group is currently finishing work on their debut record, with no release date or title announced as of yet. In the meantime, however, the group’s summer-ready new single ”Marianne” is currently available below. And see the band live later this month on May 29th at Lincoln Hall (tix).

Two new live clips of California Wives have hit the web. First, City Of Chicago TV is featuring the band performing its track “Twenty Three” as part of the Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge program. The song was filmed during the band’s set at Millennium Park‘s Pritzker Pavilion, and can be seen below.
Meanwhile, local video performance-based site Giant System has posted a clip of California Wives delivering a live version of its song “Marianne.” Find that video below.
