Gold Motel has been gearing up for the release of their sophomore full length for a while now, and finally, the album is almost here. From Gold Motel guitarist Eric Hehr comes Blonde Ventura, the artist’s new side venture. The pop-rock project features Hehr and vocalist Rachel Pointec. CVU has been keeping tabs on Gold Motel‘s forthcoming self-titled sophomore album, set to drop July 3rd through the group’s own Good as Gold Records imprint. And now, as that date draws that much closer, the record has gone up for pre-order, with multiple purchasing tiers available. The top level option, the $250 “Super Duper” edition, includes an autographed copy of the album, the buyer’s name in the album thank you section, a page of lyrics written out, a personalized song, and more.
The group takes the stage this Friday, April 27th at Metro (tix) in support of JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound (more on that here), where they’ll be performing a handful of new selections from the upcoming self-titled effort. The band also plays the next night, April 28th, at Illinois State University‘s Last Blast event, and July 1st at Summerfest in Milwaukee, WI. Local sun-pop outfit Gold Motel has been building fan excitement over the group’s forthcoming album for months now, through methods like a Howler Sessions performance and an ongoing series of recording update videos. Now, a release date has been announced for the group’s self-titled sophomore effort, which will drop July 3rd through the act’s Good As Gold imprint. In the meantime, the band is in the finishing stages of the album’s artwork, an effort open to its fanbase.
A recently launched interactive fan campaign encourages interested parties to submit Instagram pictures for inclusion on the group’s forthcoming record. The initiative runs through this Sunday, April 15th, so procrastinators should think about getting their entries in now. To submit, mark your Instagram photos with the hashtag #goldmotelalbum. The group will then review all submissions and choose a select few for inclusion on the Gold Motel full length. In the meantime, check out a brand new teaser video, featuring material from the upcoming album, and catch the band live on April 27th at Metro and April 28th at Illinois State University Normal.

In recent months, local sunshine pop act Gold Motel has been keeping its fan base appeased and informed with an ongoing series of recording update videos. And tonight, Friday, December 23rd, local fans of the band will get to see the real thing live one more time in 2011, when Gold Motel headlines Lincoln Hall. Looking ahead, those traveling to Austin, TX this coming March will have a chance to catch the group as one of the the official acts at SXSW 2012. The group is planning to write its sophomore full length this fall, and will be road-testing material on upcoming dates with Company Of Thieves. More immediately, lucky ticket-holders can catch Gold Motel tomorrow, August 3rd, opening for Cold War Kids at the Metro for the sold out Nelarusky: A Pre-Lollapalooza Event Benefitting Special Olympics Chicago.
