As officially selected ambassadors to this year’s SXSW, Secret Colours are on a roll as of late. The group’s free show last month at the Empty Bottle earned the psychedelic rock outfit notice from throughout the city. Similarly, the rising act also recently completed a Couch House Sounds live session, which offers a preview of the outfit’s live set. Now, with a wealth of SXSW appearances, Secret Colours stand poised to make a big impression on Austin later this month. Columbia College record label AEMMP Records are long time supporters of the Chicago music scene. And with the release of the organization’s Chomp, Too compilation happening tomorrow, the young group of upstarts is once again delivering another solid grouping of songs from emerging and established Chicago artists. Last night’s Local 101 on Q101 featured interviews with members of CVU regulars Secret Colours (above) and My Gold Mask. Those interviews can now be heard further down in this entry, with L101 host Chris Payne chatting Secret Colours’ Tommy Evans up about the psychedelia-laden band’s free show this Thursday, February 17th at Empty Bottle. My Gold Mask’s Jack Armondo, meanwhile, comes on the show to preview the haunt-pop act’s part in tonight’s Chicago Reader sponsored Anti-Valentine’s Day party happening at Lincoln Hall.

Chicago psychedelic rockers Secret Colours have presented  a new live performance clip for exclusive premiere here at CVU. The video, for the hypnotic “In the Absence,” comes from a November 2010 set at Subterranean and is produced by local filmmaker Elijah Alvarado. View that performance below.

In other news, the band is set to headline The Empty Bottle on Thursday, February 17th, on a bill that also features Panda Riot and Calm Palm Vapor. The event is free with RSVP email to rsvp@emptybottle.com with the subject header ‘Betta.’ For more on Calm Palm Vapor, check out the group’s recent CVU 2011 Forecast feature, or download the band’s Morning Pacific album for free, including the single “Run The Tables.”

Chicago psychedelic rock act Secret Colours have uploaded a new two-track single to its Bandcamp page. The effort’s title track is a meaner and more uptempo affair, while “Lust (Slow)” lives up to the second half of its name, offering a lazy, hazy slow burner. Download both cuts below.
