The event will give Chicago creatives who are passionate about sound, either on a personal or professional level, the chance to connect with other sound creators. The free event is open to, but not limited to:

After a relatively quiet start to the year comes news that Chicago gaze-pop act California Wives have signed with Vagrant Records.

“We were excited to sign to Vagrant because it gave us the opportunity to work with a great producer who pushed us to think outside of our tendencies as musicians,” frontman Jayson Kramer states in the label’s announcement. “The newer instrumentation and arrangements were a result of that relationship in the studio. We are thrilled to be a part of such a terrific roster of musicians at Vagrant and we can’t wait to put the new music out there.”

The group is currently finishing work on their debut record, with no release date or title announced as of yet. In the meantime, however, the group’s summer-ready new single ”Marianne” is currently available below. And see the band live later this month on May 29th at Lincoln Hall (tix).

According to the Daily Herald via confirmation from bandleader Kaustubh Pandav, Joe Sell (far left, above), guitarist for Lucky Boys Confusion, passed away Tuesday night at age 33. The band hopes to release a statement tonight. CVU will have more on this story as it becomes available, and our hearts go out to the Lucky Boys Confusion family.

Update: The band has posted the following statement on Facebook:

We are saddened & devastated to hear the news of our bandmember, friend & brother Joe Sell’s passing this morning. The five of us have toured, recorded & performed as one for the last fifteen years. More importantly, we’ve all grown up together. There simply are no words right now.

We send our truest condolences to the entire Sell family & ask on their behalf that everyone respects their privacy at this difficult time.

The band has no further statement at this time & we thank you for your kind thoughts.

Just a week after the group released their Volume Six mixtape, The Hood Internet is back on another new release. The Toothy Wavy album features Isaiah Toothtaker of Machina Muerte and currently incarcerated MC Max B, in addition to Hood Internet production. Much like the Wonder Twins or Voltron, good things only get better when you bring them together. Over the past few months, we’ve been slowly but steadily dropping tracks and videos from the highly anticipated album Toothy Wavy, and its finally here.Toothy Wavy is a collaborative project between Machina Muerte head Isaiah Toothtaker, incarcerated rapper Max B, and production duo The Hood Internet. Toothy Wavy brings together all three artists’ unique styles, ending up with something you’re never quite heard before. Toothtaker, in addition to rapping on the tracks and providing hooks, also helmed most of the videos (of which there was one for each track), while The Hood Internet handled all of the beats, and Max B recorded his verses through the prison phone line. The whole project is a lesson in collaboration through difficult borders, and the result is nothing short of awesome. That’s the extra special cover art above, designed by Doze. Following the group posting an acoustic video for their track “Floorboards,” Real Friends have posted an EP of acoustic cuts. Aptly titled Acoustic Songs EP, the four song collection finds the group delivering stripped down renditions of cuts from their Everyone That Dragged You Here EP. In early 2011, local electro-pop act Save The Clocktower released its debut full length, Carousel.Now, less than a year and a half later, the group is back with comparably more organic track, “Like That.” The song is the first single from the band’s forthcoming Through The Glass effort, set to drop on July 3rd. Check out the group’s new, smoother sound in the video player below.

Chicago pop rock outfit Farraday has posted a teaser for its forthcoming video, “Lockdown.” Check that 40 second teaser below (complete with Lost‘s closing thud at the end, in a fitting reference), and watch for the full treatment to post here at CVU once it hits the web.
