This Friday, August 17th, Krewella and DJ Phenom share a stage at Logan Square Auditorium (tix) for an end of summer throw down. For Krewella, the hometown show kicks off a run of dates that takes the hard EDM group on the road all the way through to December. The group is out in support of this year’s Play Hard EP.
Phenom, meanwhile, continues his ubiquitous streak he’s been on this summer, following a slew of Lollapalooza after-parties, and even a slot at the festival itself. Additionally, the IN native is set to close out the Groupon stage on Saturday, September 1st at the North Coast Music Festival.

With the group’s Great Ideas In Action full length dropping this coming Tuesday, May 1st, Archie Powell And The Exports are out in full support of the effort. The group just held a listening party for the record last night at Township in Logan Square, and tonight, the band headlines Subterranean (tix) for the Great Ideas In Action record release show.
“If Skip Work was cooked medium, this one’s medium rare,” Powell informed CVU of the new record back in January. “It’s louder, meaner, and all around more reflective of how we sound live. Plus I’m pretty sure my mom won’t like a lot of the more aggressive material, which is always a positive.”
Prepare for the show with the newly posted video for Action cut “Crazy Pills,” followed by the group’s recent covers of “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around” and “Strangers,” as well a clip of the group performing at Audio Tree‘s SXSW 2012 showcase. Those videos all follow frontman Archie Powell’s CVU podcast interview from this year’s SXSW.
From quality Chicago label Tandem Shop comes Many Places, the sensitive singer-songwriter project of Kevin Rieg (Hidden Mitten, Rabbit Red). The album goes up for pre-order on May 8th, with a proper release May 29th, but a preview cut from that effort is available for streaming or download now. Check out the shuffling and sorrowful “Helmut Hug” below, and catch Many Places live Tuesday night at SubT, or June 10th at The Whistler for the Another Oath record release show. And listen for the group on an upcoming episode of the CVU podcast, posting just before the Whistler show.
